  • 2

The second review is a 45-minute video call. The student must send a new draft before the session. This review will recommend any major changes or additions.

  • 3

The third review is conducted offline and instead is tracked via edits and comments on the draft document. This review focuses on content, style, and structure.

  • 4

The final review is conducted offline and instead is tracked via edits and comments on the draft document. This review finishes the final draft and ensures it is the best version to use.

 FAQs

  • Writing a personal statement can be tough, but we’re here to help. Here are some tips for a strong Oxbridge personal statement:

    • Start early – Aim to finish your first draft by the end of summer before Year 13 to allow plenty of time for revisions.

    • Focus on your interests – Showcase your understanding and passion for your subject, as admissions depend on academic ability.

    • Prepare for interviews – Interviewers will use your personal statement as a starting point, so include ideas that can spark discussion.

    • Avoid naming the university – Make your statement suitable for all universities you apply to.

    • Be original, but not forced – Show your individuality, but don’t try too hard.

    • Proofread – Go over your statement multiple times to catch any mistakes.

  • When crafting your personal statement, focus on highlighting your passion and commitment to the subject rather than detailing every event in your life. Admissions Tutors are looking for insight into who you are as a student and how your experiences align with your chosen field.

    Subject-Related Work Experience
Start by discussing any relevant work experience that showcases your skills and understanding of the subject. Whether it's an internship, volunteering, or a part-time job, describe the specific tasks you undertook and how they reinforced your desire to pursue this path.

    Courses and Lectures
Next, mention any extra courses, workshops, or public lectures you’ve attended. Explain how these experiences broadened your knowledge and enriched your understanding of the subject. Sharing insights or key takeaways from these experiences can demonstrate your initiative and eagerness to learn more.

    Interest Beyond the Classroom
Lastly, highlight any projects, hobbies, or extracurricular activities that reflect your passion for the subject. This could include independent research, participation in relevant clubs, or even online courses you’ve pursued in your own time. Showcasing these elements will convey your dedication and illustrate that your interest extends beyond academic requirements.

By focusing on these key areas, you will paint a compelling picture of your academic self and leave a positive impression on the Admissions Tutors.

  • Your personal statement is part of your UCAS form, so don't repeat what's already in it. Use the statement to show why you'd be a great fit for the university. Don't mention any disagreements that impacted your grades or reasons for long absences.
